Sigma DP1 is one of the most unique compact digital cameras available on the market. It brings a DSLR sensor on such a compact body, instead the large and heavy body of real DSLR cameras. This combination produce high image quality without noise issues which happens to most modern compact camera.
Not only brings DSLR sensor, this Sigma DP1 compact camera also employs Foveon’s X3 technology to allows this camera to capture full color of every subject, which not provided by most sensors. As a matter of fact, Sigma is the only major company that use Foveon’s sensor.
Sigma DP1 also comes with 14.06 megapixel resolution which consists of three layer structure, with 4.69 actual megapixels on each layer, which stands re light layer, green layer, and blue layer. This is the secret behind the capability of Sigma DP1 to capture full color of every subject.
Besides the sensor, another special thing about Sigma DP1 is the zoom lens with a 28mm fixed focal length. Unfortunately without several comfort features such as image stabilization, high resolution movie mode and face detection. Even so, it brings out a flash hotshoe, manual focusing, full PASM modes, and some accessories.
